Hello Final Day
This 21 day challenge was amazing! It helped me get back on track and I even saw a lower A1c on by blood work yesterday. Not sure if it was because of this challenge or not, but I’ll take it! Having had Type 2 diabetes for over 10 years, I had gotten into the habit of not testing often and assuming things were good. This challenge opened my eyes to how high my numbers really were and helped me make changes to bring those numbers down. My previous fasting numbers were in the 100-120 range, and now it’s pretty much in the 80-90 range. I can’t wait to show my results to my doctor next week when I go for my follow up blood work visit.
So here’s my final report for my fasting bs. At 6:50 am I was 106 (had 1 too many ritz cracker snack before bed!) My bs before breakfast was 111 and 2 hrs later I was 149. I had 1/2 multi grain flat bread (top) w/peanut butter. (The top half is thicker so my post numbers run a bit higher)
I hope that everyone is pleased with the changes and continue to implement the changes from here on out. I know I plan to and even improve whenever possible. My highest A1c was 11. My lowest A1c was 5.8. My current A1c is 6.3 down from last year’s A1c of 6.8. With the things I’ve learned I believe I can get down to the 5.8 once again. Will miss this time with you each morning.
Blessings to all!

YES – I had a feeling that would happen!! It is very likely it has helped those A1c numbers. Even a few weeks makes a difference to how much glucose is on the red blood cells. So if you keep it up, the next test will be very interesting. Great work and keep it up!

Fasting BG 114!
Thanks for a great challenge. It has helped me stabilize my BG with less variability so Iโm in-range more. Over the past month, our son has been living with us, weโve eaten out quite a bit, and there was Thanksgiving in the middle too. In spite of that, Iโve been doing pretty well trying to focus on lower-carb meals. I really need to resume planning, preparing and cooking my DMP meals, rather than depending on what my wife happens to be fixing.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Great to hear that things are balancing out Doug. You have said in the past that when you plan and cook more, your levels are better, too. Still, this time of year can be tougher so you can still make better choices – and maybe ask your wife to accommodate you more too? Perhaps you can plan together, and when she’s cooking there could be a slight alternative for you.

I have read every post sent to us the last 21 days but have not participated wholeheartedly.
Today my fasting number is 122. High but it has been much higher. Good luck to all.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
That’s okay Jill, we’re so glad you’ve still been a silent participant – and thanks for checking in today. ๐ We hope you’ve gained some great new knowledge that can help you to get those numbers even lower.
Stephen
FBS at 8:49 am is 93.
Congrats to all for working through the challenge, and it was a challenge. My Dr initially warned me last year my BS number was creeping again and to get serious. I cut out the obvious high sugar offenders like sports drinks with high fructose sugar, high sugar fruits, watched the nutrition labels for excessive sugars etc. What I thought would not matter were the carb levels with pastas, rice and breads because of my high physical activity lifestyle – a past college athlete. 31 miles on a bike at a constant 17-18 mph I assumed burned off most and the Dr was seeing the small residual.
But once a year tracking would not work in a daily challenge. I purchased a blood glucose meter and watched in wonder as hour by hour what I ate affected my body, I burned through 200 test strips during the challenge. There are some things that don’t compute in how/what I eat and the affect on my body but I now have those to continue to study.
Good luck to you all in the battle against diabetes, reading the others comments was an inspiration.
I do public speaking in my business, I plan to weave my challenge details into my presentations. Thank you for a job well done.

Testing really does bring much insight to what’s occurring in your body Stephen, so glad it’s helping you to understand more. Thanks for your participation. It’s nice to know that it has inspired you enough to weave it into your talks. Keep us updated on that (and your future progress), we’d love to hear about it ๐

Fasting glucose was 82. That was my best number yet! Number at bedtime was 84. Iโm really new to this and just started testing during the challenge. This was good to help me really focus on my numbers and diet. I hope that with diet and exercise I can continue to fight for my health! Thank you for your guidance and support
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Fantastic Roxanne. Good to hear you started some new habits – testing included, which always helps a lot.

FBS 126 this morning – high for me. Have had a few days of not feeling well, not sleeping well AND not eating well – too much sugar and junk food. Hope to get back on track today.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
It’s strange how when we don’t feel well we often eat bad. It’s partially because we don’t want to cook, but it’s also because of a change in hormones in the body. Hope you feel well soon. You know what to do, so just pull yourself on track. ๐

Thank you to Jedha, Emely and everyone who posted. I learned something new everyday.
My initial problem upon signup was too low and unstable BG. I was burnt out & doing too many reckless & unhealthy food cheats. Finally made the connection between spikes up (even when within the ‘allowable’ after-meal 2 hour window, with a 2 hr mark ‘good read’, is/was followed by spikes down). This challenge was a wake-up call. Even with a bug & holiday stress, I’m back on track. My FBG is much better again. I think generally I had a healthy diet coming in but knowledge is not enough. Maintaining a positive mental attitude toward eating healthy and treating your body well with good food is imperative. It has hammered home for me that I need to stay between 80 & 120 all the time in order to avoid pain and feel healthy and energetic. Thanks again to all and wishing all the best of the season. Be well!
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Maintaining a positive attitude can be tough Pat. I think one of the positive outcomes of this challenge is that everyone was doing it together, so it gives you that support and encouragement, and a reminder to put yourself first – many of us struggle with that (myself included). It’s good to hear those fasting numbers are better and I hope you overcome those dangerous lows you were having.

Victorious!! I made the full 21 days. It has been enlightening and enjoyable keeping up with the success the participants have shown as well as myself. My wife is also a type 2 and she told me if DMP does another challenge she wants to join in and do it with me!!! I consider that a Hugh success. My FBG this morning at 4:08 am was 91. I ate my 2 egg scramble with spinach and chilies for breakfast, 2 hours after my first bite BG was 99. I am happy with the information and I have a low carb berry pie slice for a mid morning snack today, it is yummy!! Thank you for all the information and updated knowledge.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
WOW – that’s fantastic Bill – the power of being a model to someone else. Glad you enjoy the pie – YUM ๐

Fbs 125. Have struggled with going oUT to eat and not eating the chips or bread. Need more work on that. Checking blook sugar daily has helped in seeing that I can’t cheat once in a while it it will not change my blood sugar. Have to be diligent all the time. Thanks for this challenge.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Sounds like you’re doing really well with building awareness Doug. And that is going to lead you to better health. Good job and keep it up ๐
Dee
Hi all,
My FBS is 110. I guess Iโm still under the weather. I havenโt seen this kind of number except the initial Dx.
Before sleep, I ate 1 oz cheese. Maybe I should stop eating cheese for a while until my FBS goes back to 101.
Thank you very much for the DMP team for the info. ๐ It has been difficult to remove grains, legumes, certain fruits and starch vegetables for 21 days, but I did it. However it would have been a lot harder without all other participants.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Changing our diet certainly can be tough – but there are still plenty of foods available to us, so it’s just habit, and learning new things. Hope you get well soon Dee.
Carol
FBS 140. Canโt believe this is day 21. I have learned that if I have to answer to someone other than myself, I monitor on a regular schedule. I will continue this by keeping a daily log on my iPhone; this is something that is convenient for me and I can see trends. I have learned that stopping carbs after 7:30-8pm does help my fasting level. I feel better knowing that you donโt have to be perfect, but if you backslide and numbers go up, you look back and consider what you did and what you should have done, then you move forward.
Thank you very much for this challenge. I updated some of my thinking to newer information; I was getting complacent about taking care of myself. Thank you for your help.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Wonderful Carol – that’s so great to hear. It’s true, no one is ever perfect but if we develop more awareness, we can live healthy on a daily basis and know that’s how we want to feel. It becomes much easier to get back on track. Well done ๐
Linda
Fasting 96. Iโm so proud of myself for sticking with the challenge for 21 days. Iโve lost weight and changed eating habits. I look forward to keeping it up.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
We’re proud of you too. You CAN do whatever you put your mind to. But we understand it’s easy to get distracted with life, which was what this challenge was all about. Glad you’re feeling more confident and happy – keep it up!
Mrs Tee Peeps
Fbs = 171…the lowest since I started this challenge. Okay so I never got to normal range…that’s ok for yesterday, but today is another chance to reach normal.
This challenge did a couple of things for me, not that I didn’t know them before, but just wasn’t being aware…so checking my blood sugar on a more regular basis and becoming more aware of my diet.
Ok, I may not have won the prizes, but the prize for me for the small steps that I have now taken to become blood sugar normal.
I now have a plan in place to get me normal and this was the kick start I needed…so thank you for the challenge.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
YES!!! That’s excellent Mrs Tee Peeps! Those two things are critical to your long term success – testing regularly and being aware of your diet. You’re already a winner ๐
Mrs Tee Peeps
Hi Jedha
I’m actually interested in doing the meal plan with DMP, this is actually part of my plan that my doctor and I have discussed…i need meal planning in my hectic busy life.

Fasting = 121

Keep on going Rosalie – this number is pretty good and will improve in time.
