Key Benefits

  • Natural support to decrease your fasting blood sugar, postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar, and A1c levels
  • Improves cholesterol profile, lowering LDL and increasing LDL
  • Assists with weight loss and improving metabolism
  • Enhances antioxidant protection and reduces systemic inflammation

Overview

The thiosulfinides contained in allium vegetables like garlic, along with another sulfur compound known as allicin help decrease blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin release from the pancreas, and the benefits of garlic’s natural chromium content can help insulin perform better.

For people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, supplementing with garlic may be a great safe and natural way to decrease your fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar and A1c levels.

Recommended Dosage

Studies have used a wide variety of garlic amounts, which does make it difficult to determine the ideal amount needed for therapeutic benefit, and unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on the best form or dose of garlic.

  • Raw Garlic: 2-5 grams daily (equivalent to about one clove)
  • Dried Powder: 0.05-1.5 grams daily produces results.
  • Garlic Supplements: Capsules or pills, typically ranging from 40 to 1200 mg daily has been shown to be effective

Potential Side Effects

Supplements are generally well-tolerated. However, potential side effects include:

  • Mild gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Increased risk of bleeding (at high doses)
