Overview

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a powerful antioxidant that fights oxidative stress and has anti-inflammatory properties.

It plays a crucial role in energy production and glucose metabolism, making it beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. Without sufficient CoQ10 concentrations, both ATP (energy) production and glucose metabolism in disrupted.

CoQ10 is also linked to improved heart health and reduced inflammation.

Recommended Dosage

The standard supplemental dose for CoQ10 ranges from 90 mg to 200 mg per day.

CoQ10 supplements come in two forms: ubiquinol and ubiquinone, with ubiquinol being more readily absorbed.

Potential Side Effects

CoQ10 supplementation is generally recognized as safe with minimal side effects.

However, do not take if taking statins unless consulting with your doctor, as there is a possible nutrient-drug interaction between the two.

It is always best to check with your doctor before starting supplementation to ensure there are no contraindications or interactions with other medications.
