That image doesn’t really do these Carb Free Turkey Meatballs justice because they are incredibly delicious. And not only is this entire meal just 5 ingredients, but it’s cooked using the slow cooker, so it’s a 100% ‘set and forget’ meal.
This meal is part of the 5 Ingredients Dinner Menu we’re working on, just to show you that it really doesn’t have to be difficult to get dinner on the table, and fast!
Each meal in the menu contains just 5 ingredients, which means they are super duper easy to make and fast too – usually 10-15 minutes and you’re done!
The only exclusions to the 5 ingredients rule are:
- Olive oil
- Lemon
- Salt
- Pepper
- Water
These are 5 common staples that most people tend to have on hand so our 5 ingredients recipe don’t include these in the ingredients.
Turkey 'Slow Cooked' Meatballs
Ingredients
- 17.6 oz ground turkey mince
- 2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 14oz canned diced tomatoes - (no added salt)
- 1.7 oz Parmesan cheese - equiv. 1/2 cup
- 21 oz green cabbage - shredded into rice chunks
Instructions
- Pour the canned tomatoes in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- In a bowl, mix the ground turkey, oregano, and half the parmesan cheese. Roll into balls and place them into the slow cooker as you roll them.
- Put slow cooker on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
- Heat a large pan with a little olive oil and fry up the cabbage until cooked to your desire - either crispy or soft.
- Serve the turkey meatballs on top of the cabbage rice. And eat the leftovers the next day!
Notes
Kitchen Tools
You don’t need a fancy slow cooker. A low cost low-high setting cooker will do the trick. Sharp knives are a staple item you’ll use every day.
And a set of handy measuring spoons and measuring cups are probably one of the most used kitchen items

Great idea!

Must have done something wrong. The turkey was very dry, and didn’t have taste. We had to resort to sugarfree ketchup to help get the food down!

Hmm, I have yet to try this recipe so I cannot compare. If you decide to try again I would make sure the meatballs are really sitting in the canned tomatoes so they can absorb all the delicious juices!!

Hi Jedha i enjoy reading the articles and recipes. Would like to know if weetbix is good as my husband and i have this for breakfast. I have them with some almond milk(unsweetened) with chia seeds, lsa meal and some cimmamon powder.
Jedha
Cherryl, the question is, how is it affecting your blood sugar? Weetbix is low in sugar, which is good because most cereals are high in sugar. But just 2 biscuits is 20 g carbs. For you this may be fine, for others this might be too high. Eating them with a protein or fat will help lower spikes in blood sugar. For instance, almond milk, nuts, chia – that’s a good way to eat it. Not fruit, milk and honey, which all just add more carbs.
