This is the first installment of our new Tasty Tuesday feature where we’ll be covering different types of foods you can purchase online – in low carb diabetic friendly options, of course.

Locally it can be difficult to find lower carb options. But thankfully now there are places we can shop for things we can’t get locally – Amazon and Netrition being two common places to shop for low carb products.

We use these two stores to give you the run down on diabetic snack bars available.

Atkins Snack Bars

Atkins brand is quite commonly known for their range of low carb products.

When it comes to diabetic snack bars, they do have quite a range. But when choosing, do be careful as they all contain different levels of carbs.

For instance, their Endulge Treat bars are 23 g total carbs, 9 g fiber, 12 g sugar alcohol.

On the package, they say net carbs is just 2 g. However, this is a little deceiving. They have made this calculation by subtracting the sugar alcohol as well. But, sugar alcohols can influence blood sugar levels to some degree. To be on the safe side, stick to calculating net carbs based on total carbs minus fiber.

The Almond Coconut Crunch has only 16 g total carbs, 8 g fiber, 8 g net carbs. These are $5.49 for 5 bars, approximately $1.10 per bar. From Netrition they are slightly more expensive $6.79.

Atkins also have “Meal Bars” – which are really just snack bars.

They come in a range of flavors from Chop Chip Granola, to Peanut Butter Pretzel, to Mocha Almond.

The Mocha Almond is around 17 g total carbs, 11 g fiber, 6 g net carbs. The meal bars cost around $8.49 for 5 bars.

Harvest Trail Bars, also an Atkins product are much better. The Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel is best in terms of carb content – 13 g total carbs, 9 g fiber, 4 g net carbs. The price is around $6.80 for 5 bars.

Protein Snack Bars

Most protein bars sit around the 20 to 25 g total carbs and 5-18 g net carb range.

Muscletech mission protein bar

For instance, Muscletech, Mission1 Clean Protein Bar, chocolate brownie flavor, comes in at 24 g total carb per bar, 20 g fiber, 4 g net carbs. This one is a little lower on net carbs as it packs a punch on fiber. But you pay the price too. For 12 bars the cost is $59.99 – $4.99 per bar.

Granade Carb Killer protein bars come in at 25 g total carbs, 7 g protein, 18 g net carbs, price scale $26.12 for 12 bars – $2.17 per bar.

Simply Protein Bar, a vegan and gluten free option, is 16 g total carbs, 7 g fiber, 9 g net carbs. A pack of 15 bars comes in at $24.99 – $1.66 per bar.

One great thing about these bars is they are more ‘natural.’ Some of the protein bars contain lists of ingredients the length of your arm, whereas these bars have a short ingredient list of recognizable ingredients. This often indicates a higher quality product.

Trader Joe’s Organic Chia Seed Bars

One thing you may be able to pick up locally if you have access to Trader Joe’s, are their Organic Chia Seed Bars. Alternatively, you can purchase them from Amazon.

Trader Joe's organic chia bars

14 g total carbs, 3 g fiber, 11 g net carbs. Around $7.67 for 5 bars – $1.53 per bar. Not super low carb, but overall, not too bad either. The ingredient list contains everything organic and recognizable, too.

Quest Snack Bars

Quest are also a popular low carb brand with many different products available.

Quest bars

These Chop Chip Cookie Dough Bars come in at 190 calories, 21 g total carbs, 17 g fiber, 4 g net carbs. They cost around $20 per 12 pack, making them around $1.65 per bar.

Other flavors include Cookies n Cream, Smores, Double Choc Chunk, White Chocolate Raspberry, Choc Brownie and more. Browse the Quest range on Amazon here. Browse Quest range at Netrition over here.

Wonder Slim Protein-Fiber Bars

These Wonder Slim Bars are 160 calories, 18 g total carbs, 8 g fiber, 10 g net carbs, 15 g protein – 7 in a pack for $13.95, making them around $1.99 per bar.

These NuGo Smarte Carb Bars come in at 190 calories, 19 g total carbs, 5 g fiber, 15 g net carbs, 20 g protein. They cost $19.75, making them around $1.65 per bar.

As you can see from the above, there is a wide variety of diabetic friendly snack bars available.

Of course, if you don’t want to purchase ready-made bars, you can make your own.

Here is one of our most popular snacks. They are balls, not bars, but we know you’ll love them just the same.

Peanut Butter Protein Bars

Per one ball (which is quite filling) you’re looking at 167 calories, 5 g total carbs, 2 g fiber, 3 g net carbs, and 10 g protein.

Want to make them? Click here for the full recipe.

Our Top Pick

The Simply Protein Bar, with 16 g total carbs, 7 g fiber, 9 g net carbs. At $1.66 per bar, this is a reasonable price and overall this has the cleanest ingredients out of all of the snack bars above.

Simply Protein Bars

Well, that’s it for today. This doesn’t cover every single snack bar of course, but it does provide a range of different options for you to explore.
