Many people living with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes think they are doomed to be deprived of all things sweet. That’s certainly not true.

It just means thinking a bit different, because it doesn’t include the typical high carb, sugar-filled desserts you can buy, you know, ice cream, candy, frozen apple pies, cakes, cookies and stuff like that.

But there are low carb easy diabetic desserts that are sugar free and blood sugar friendly. You just have to strap on your apron strings, get comfortable using safe sugar substitutes and other healthier ingredients, and you can make many delicious and decadent creations!

We’ll share 5 easy delicious recipes here for you to enjoy.

1. Low Carb Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble

This is a delicious sweet blend of low carb fruits and crunchy nut crumble that provides ultimate satisfaction and maintains stable blood sugar control. If you don’t like rhubarb, you could also make this a berry crumble.

This crumble is also a gluten free diabetic dessert, like all the sweet treats listed here.

3. Sugar Free Low Carb Diabetic Chocolate Milkshake

A creamy chocolate milkshake that uses avocado for the smooth creamy texture might sound strange, but boy does it taste delicious!

It tastes nothing like avocado, but it’s smooth texture is highly satisfying for hours after, providing heart-healthy fats and quality protein.

To boost it’s health benefits, add a scoop of whey protein and watch your blood sugar come down!

It’s moist and delicious and can be enjoyed for dessert or morning or afternoon tea.

5. Coconut Chia Pudding

Chia seeds are one of the most beneficial foods for people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

They are full of fiber, healthy fats such as omega 3, protein, and loads of vitamins and minerals. In fact, as far as seeds go, they really are a ‘complete’ food source, which is why they’ve been eaten for centuries.

Have you ever tried fresh, spongy chia seed pudding with fresh berries on top and sweetened with stevia?

Delicious! You simply must give it a try!

Awesome!! Thank you so much for this article and information, because I have to find better desserts than Stover’s Sugar Free candy. The holidays are just around the corner and I prepare the dinners and we have several family members that are Type 2 and these desserts will be very helpful for us. Thank.

Will the sugar substitutes like Stevia (aspartame) not have a bad effect in our body in the long run?

    • Jedha

Stevia and aspartame are two very different substances Christine. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener and yes, research has shown it can be harmful. On the other hand, stevia is a plant, and so far there is no research to show any negative effects. And it may even be beneficial.

Thanks, Jedha! I read further about it. I didn’t know before that there are now plant sweeteners. I have been recently diagnosed with T2D. For someone who originally liked sweet food, it has been very difficult for me. This information about Stevia is good to know.

MMm, yum. Hope you enjoy it Brewster!

Only one glass for you, none for many. You’re one of the lucky ones. But then again, you already had good control to begin and that’s the key! Keep up the great work Brewster. :)

Wow, wife asked me to print these, done. BTW my nightly glass of red wine is working well on my numbers, now in the high 4’s. My DR. agrees with it as does the diabetic assoc’s

Goodo Brewster. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them. Good to hear the wine works for you. BUT it definitely does not work for everyone. Another person who tried this recently had their blood sugar skyrocket. This is just another example of why you need to understand your own body – and monitor of course.
