When you have type 2 diabetes (or prediabetes), eating a certain way can help you lower blood sugar and A1c and prevent complications. For instance, eating low carb, which generally means no pasta, rice, potatoes, bread and noodles.
But if you’ve been eating out of a packet or you’re used to eating all those high carb foods, you may need to take some diabetes cooking classes to learn what to eat, how to replace those high carb foods. And more importantly, how easy it is to make healthy blood-sugar friendly food.
And trust me, it really is very easy!
One major benefit of joining us as a member are our diabetes cooking classes – we have more than 150 available!
Today, I wanted to walk you through a couple of cooking class, to show you how easy diabetes cooking is. And more importantly, how delicious blood-sugar friendly eating can be!
Benefits of Cooking at Home
There are many benefits to cooking at home, but a few important ones include:
- Control over what you eat (you can focus on eating blood-sugar friendly, health-boosting foods)
- Save money (especially if you’re organized with weekly meal plans and shopping lists)
- Lower blood sugar and A1c
- Improved overall health
Sample Diabetes Cooking Classes
Everyone loves a spaghetti bolognese, right? In the video below, we make a simple chicken bolognese sauce (get the full recipe here).
Of course, you don’t want to eat this sauce with pasta. Instead, try eating it on top of a bed of steamed green beans, vegetables, or zucchini noodles.
Or for something else, spice up the bolognese sauce and make these delicious Enchilada Stuffed Zucchini (full recipe here).

Testimonials
Gini D says: “I love every recipe I have tried so far. Especially appreciate the 5 ingredient ones. I have found it sooo helpful to prep all my veggies on one day and either freeze them or just refrigerate them. Makes cooking much faster! I have been eating low carb for a month and exercising every day and I do feel better and am thrilled my numbers are better, too.”
Elizabeth B says: “The information, the recipes, the support – I don’t feel so hopeless. I love the fact that it all reminds me that I can still eat! I just love how much clear, understandable information is available. I appreciate the very quick responses I have received from my emails. Excellent resource! Thank you so much!!”

Can a type 2 eat steaks, i mean beef, cow. Also for someone with high cholesterol, how much egg can you eat a week. Some say one should eat more of egg white.
Jedha: Nutritionist (MNutr)
Yes Michael, you can eat steaks. And feel free to eat eggs everyday, including the yolks. Eggs do not raise cholesterol – this is a myth. Read more about eggs here. And read more about cholesterol here.
Linda
Hi
I’d like to say that having looked at the amount of carbs in tomato paste and also in tinned tomatoes I wouldn’t think the sauce for bolonaze is low carb at all. Right me if I’m wrong but I’ve checked 2 supermarket’s so far.
Thanks a million for some wonderful recipes 🍽
Emily - Dietitian (MS, RD)
As long as your purchasing canned tomatoes that are “just tomatoes” then it is perfectly acceptable to use. You will want to look for a sugar free version of paste/ canned tomatoes; make sure to skim the ingredient list to check for any high fructose corn syrup or any other sugary sounding ingredients.
A serving of this dish contains 8 grams of carbohydrates– definitely a great low carb additional to your weekly meal rotation!
